THE STUDIO
WE ARE FOCUSED ON PROVIDING THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF VOCAL TRAINING TO VOCAL PROFESSIONALS IN NYC, ACROSS THE UNITED STATES AND AROUND THE WORLD.
HOW WE THINK ABOUT SINGING
Studying singing is a continuous process that is equal parts psychological and physiological.
Our mission with every client is to equip you with the tools to both understand what vocal options you have and to execute them with consistency.
HOW WE TEACH
Every singer enters the studio with their own unique vocal journey. Your past training, vocal goals, learning needs, professional demands etc. impact how you psychologically and physiologically interpret singing. Therefore, each one-to-one lesson format is highly individualized. Our job is to create a collaborative learning environment that helps you move towards three foundational goals:
FLEXIBILITY:
To help each client coordinate a wide variety of sounds with consistency and efficiency.
ADAPTABILITY:
To equip each client with the tools and confidence to respond, adapt and explore a wide range of sounds in their preparation and in performance.
AUTONOMY:
For each client to feel that they can be their own best voice teacher
WHY WE TEACH THIS WAY...
THE ONE THING WE CAN ALWAS COUNT ON IS CHANGE.
Art is constantly changing and adapting and with it are the expectations for the voice. Building voices that are flexible and prioritizing adaptability offers singers the tools to ‘own’ their technique and continue to grow as an artist without the constant guidance of a teacher. Rather than focusing on finding ‘the’ way to sing, we prioritize an ‘open’ mindset with endless possibilities for artistry and growth.
MEET YOUR TEACHERS
JARED TRUDEAU
I came to voice teaching in a roundabout way. I should have known it was what I wanted to do because, even as a teenager, I was coaching friends through songs and analyzing the singing of everyone from Whitney Houston to Mandy Patinkin. I found myself on the pre-med track at Tufts University, but shadowing doctors made me realize my heart was not in medicine. After completing degrees in Music and Psychology, I completed an M.F.A. in Voice Pedagogy for Musical Theatre at Penn State University. It was there that my seemingly disparate interests coalesced into the flexible approach to teaching I utilize today.
My joy in the studio comes from helping singers condition their voice and body to respond to whatever expressive impulse they have. Over the last 15+ years of teaching, I’ve realized the path toward establishing reliable, compelling vocalism is different for each client.
Everyone who comes in is cross-trained in order to maintain optimum flexibility and expressivity. This all happens within a ‘Bel Canto/Can Belto’ framework, but I combine modalities differently depending on their needs. In the studio, we combine contemporary voice science with Lessac, Fitzmaurice, Feldenkrais, Skinner Releasing/OSF, yoga, Cicily Berry, Estill, functional anatomy, neuroscience, dance technique, and various acting methodologies to foster the best, most emotionally connected singing possible.
I’m lucky enough to collaborate with and learn from so many incredible voice teachers, voice scientists, and musical directors. These experiences all help whether I’m working with someone who’s in a Broadway show, a singer-songwriter/recording artists, a TV and film actor who happens to be a great singer, or a killer cross-over artist.

JOEY HARELL
I completed my Ph. D in Music Education at Penn State where my focus was Musical Theater Voice Pedagogy. My journey to teaching, like many others, started with singing and evolved into a fascination with the voice and a passion for education. However, the critical moment that sent me down a path of discovery with teaching was facing challenges in my own voice.
I completed an undergraduate degree in vocal performance and ended up leaving school in worse shape than when I entered. After canceling a handful of upcoming performances, I was desperate to understand what happened to my voice and how I could get it back. This experience sent me on a journey to discover how our voice ‘works’ and how it can be ‘habilitated.’
There were two experiences that impacted my understanding of teaching throughout my study. First, was the realization there are physical properties of the voice that are agreed upon. This realization took place during my time at Boston Conservatory where I was able to study the anatomy, physiology and physics that make up the human voice. .
The second experience was understanding there are acoustic or ‘sound’ qualities of the voice that are agreed upon. This realization was guided by my tremendous mentors at Penn State University who so clearly articulated the qualities of sound associated with musical theater singing.
An understanding of the structure of the instrument and the sounds of musical theater singing acted as pillars upon which my understanding of teaching could rest. From there I needed to gain experience in the highly individualized process of guiding the education of singers.
Years later, I still rely on these ideas but my most potent learning experiences come from the clients and teachers I interact with on a daily basis. Each teaching day is an experience of growth and learning and I am indebted to the brilliant colleagues and clients I am fortunate enough to interact with on a regular basis.
